"Predicting the future of the laboratory" develops the presentations of our keynote speakers from Northwest analytics on one hand and Gartner on the other hand.

Louis Halvorsen, CTO at NWA and Michael Sandler, Vice president research at Gartner have both highlighted the importance for the laboratory to get on board with the latest technologies available today, in order to move from being the " black box" of the industry and become the rich data provider with strong insight within the company, become a key contributor to the business decisions at corporate level. While this might come one day, because it´s happening already as we speak at some pioneers companies that are anticipating the future, the needs are extremely basic at first instance.

Pat Pijanowski at LAbAnswer explained clearly that no transformational changes can really happen without a well designed and comprehensive data strategy. Agreed and aligned vocabulary along the company would be the foundation for a successful Master Data Management into which any other systems could find the related information required for them to execute their queries.

The future is already at our door with the internet of things and now, already introduced at the PLA2016, the Internet of Lab Things, IoLT, alongside is the new ecosystem converging to the Industrial Internet of things, IIoT.

The organisation wants to take the opportunity here to thanks again Scientific Computing World for supporting the Cocktail reception of the event which has been greatly appreciated by all the attendees.

The Research VP of the prestigious American research and advisory firm providing information technology structured his talk according to four axes:

Forces and technology trends impacting all businesses in the “Digital Era”

CIO priorities

IT environment for Scientific Industries

How technology will enable laboratory innovation transformation.

Some of the talk’s highlights were:

The future is unknown, but the technology precursors for big changes are here, today.

By 2017, 80% of ELN* will underperform due to changing R&D needs and unsustainable service models, requiring replacement or overhauls.

By 2019, 30% of the top 100 life science R&D IT organizations will have successfully moved big data projects from proof of concept (POC) and pilots into production. *process and data workflows.
